MVP 0.1 · Beginner → Infrastructure-ready foundation

Learn the job by doing the job.

This first release teaches the prerequisites a new person needs before Kubernetes and AI infrastructure: core IT concepts, Linux, basic networking, Git, scripting and containers.

Training loop

✓Learn the concept in plain English
✓Practice vocabulary and comprehension
✓Use a simulated terminal
✓Handle a realistic support ticket
✓Document the fix or escalate correctly

Foundation modules

Sellable beta target: $99–$199

01 · IT & Cloud Foundations

Servers, clients, IP, DNS, ports, APIs, CPU/RAM/storage, virtual machines, security basics.

Vocabulary · Quiz · Incident

02 · Linux & Command Line

Files, processes, permissions, services, networking tools, logs and troubleshooting.

Terminal · Quiz · Incident

03 · Git, Bash & Python

Version control, simple shell automation and enough Python to call an API and inspect results.

Hands-on · Quiz · Change ticket

04 · Containers

Images, containers, registries, ports, environment variables, volumes and container troubleshooting.

Terminal · Quiz · Break/fix

01 · IT & Cloud Foundations

Goal: understand the words your coworkers use and follow the path of a request from a user's device to a service.

Core vocabulary

ClientA device or program that requests a service.
ServerA system or program that provides a service to clients.
IP addressA network address used to identify a host or interface.
DNSTranslates names such as app.example.com into IP addresses.
PortA numbered network endpoint used by a service, such as 80 or 443.
APIA defined way for software systems to communicate.
CPU / RAM / StorageCompute, working memory and persistent data capacity.
Virtual machineA software-defined computer running on physical hardware.

Comprehension check

A user can open a site by IP address but not by name. Which system should you check first?
Which component keeps data after power is removed?
GITS INCIDENT 001 · LOW

“Website works by IP, but company name fails.”

A user reports that http://203.0.113.20 works, but http://training.example does not.

Your task: Identify the most likely subsystem and write a short technician note.

02 · Linux & Command Line

Goal: navigate a Linux system, inspect services and gather evidence before making changes.

Command map

pwd # show current directory ls -la # list files, including hidden files cd /path # change directory cat file # display a text file ps aux # inspect processes ss -tulpn # inspect listening network sockets df -h # disk usage free -h # memory usage curl URL # make an HTTP request tail -n 50 file.log # last 50 log lines

Rule: collect evidence first. Avoid random changes until you can explain what problem you're trying to solve.

Simulated terminal

foundation-lab · Linux shell simulator
GITS Foundation Lab Type: help
student@lab:$
GITS INCIDENT 014 · MEDIUM

Web service stopped responding

Use the simulated terminal. Determine whether the service is running and what port is listening.

Inspect running processes
Inspect listening ports
Test the local web endpoint

03 · Git, Bash & Python

Goal: make safe changes, track them and automate small operational tasks.

Git: the minimum useful workflow

git clone REPO_URL git status git pull git add . git commit -m "Describe the change" git push

Operational habit: inspect what changed before deploying it.

Bash

#!/usr/bin/env bash set -e curl -fsS http://localhost:8000/health echo "service healthy"

Python: API health check

import urllib.request url = "http://localhost:8000/health" with urllib.request.urlopen(url) as r: print(r.status) print(r.read().decode())
Why use Git before changing deployment files?
GITS INCIDENT 027 · CHANGE REVIEW

A configuration change broke the health endpoint.

Previous value: APP_PORT=8000
Current value: APP_PORT=8088
Service configuration still sends traffic to port 8000.

04 · Containers

Goal: understand the unit Kubernetes will later orchestrate.

Vocabulary

ImageA packaged filesystem and metadata used to create containers.
ContainerA running isolated process created from an image.
RegistryA service that stores and distributes container images.
VolumeStorage mounted into a container so data can outlive the process.
Environment variableA common way to provide runtime configuration.

Docker-compatible command concepts

docker pull nginx docker run -d --name web -p 8080:80 nginx docker ps docker logs web curl http://localhost:8080 docker stop web docker rm web
What does -p 8080:80 mean?
GITS INCIDENT 039 · CONTAINER

Container starts, then exits immediately.

Evidence:

$ docker ps -a web-api training/api:1.0 Exited (1) $ docker logs web-api ERROR: required environment variable DATABASE_URL is missing
What should the trainee do first?

05 · Foundation Capstone

A practical readiness checkpoint before Kubernetes. Passing means the trainee has demonstrated the prerequisites, not that they are an AI infrastructure engineer.

Capstone status

Complete Modules 1–4 first.
